Oral Hygiene at Bacup Nursery School

At Bacup Nursery School, we promote healthy eating. Children have fruit or vegetable sticks for snack each morning and afternoon, alongside our very own Fruit Shop at the end of each session. During the nursery school day, children have access to drinking water, and/ or milk at snack time.

We encourage parents to send their child with a healthy lunch box and provide ideas for a healthy lunch box when a child starts nursery school. Children can receive a Healthy Lunch Box Award from Mrs Cooper, the Headteacher, and their name is put on our weekly newsletter to celebrate. Healthy eating is alongside developing children's awareness of a healthy life style which includes daily exercise and the importance of well being.

Bacup Nursery School has been accredited with the Smile for Life accreditation, and continues to promote this. Please ask if you would like to see our 'Smile for Life' special book.

Children are not given sweets or cake  to eat in nursery school for a child's birthday. A child may bring these items in to nursery school as part of their celebration but these will be sent home with a note advising of the importance of brushing teeth and having sweet food after a meal. Parents must let us know if they do not want their child to bring home 'birthday treats' brought in by another child.
